Allgood Pest Leads Event for Charleston Animal Society

This post originally appeared in The 'Good News, a blog by Allgood Services, Inc. dba Allgood Pest Solutions. In February 2017, the company changed its name to Cingo.

Allgood Pest Solutions and South of Broad Living magazine joined forces to raise money for the Charleston Animal Society.

South of Broad Living hosted an inaugural block party to bring residents together for end of the summer fun. We all know how much folks in the low country love their pets so event organizers decided to include four-legged friends and raise money for the Charleston Animal Society.

The event, hosted on Gibbes Street on Saturday, August 23, 2014, brought hundreds of residents together to enjoy food, music and games provided by many generous magazine sponsors and local businesses. The day was one of the hottest of the Charleston summer but luckily some of the games and the welcome cool breeze of the power mister offered a chance to cool off [and tents from Event Haus provided some shelter]. One favorite was a contest where teams had to open a frozen t-shirt and get it onto one of its members. It's a whole lot harder that it sounds! Burwell's provided delicious sliders, Icebox hosted a beverage bar and Jeni's served up splendid ice cream. Charleston Academy of Music students delighted the crowd on the piano. Kids played water balloon toss and had their faces painted by volunteers from St. Michael's Church and pets were treated to a massage from Sun Dog Cat Moon.

The Allgood Pestimonial booth was a center attraction. The booth, which normally records stories of encounters with pests, was instead collecting stories of people and their pets. Residents and their pets entered the booth to record a video about their lives together. Some were silly accounts of pet shenanigans, while other were touching tributes of strong bonds.

Event organizer Michell Champ was thrilled with the community participation. "It was so much fun for me to see and meet so many residents and watch people reconnect with friends they hadn't seen all summer. The fact that we were able to raise money for a local organization at the same time made it even better." South of Broad Living hosts neighborhood events throughout the year and plans to make the Block Party an annual tradition.
